Kavli Astrophysics, Nanoscience, and Neuroscience Prizes

SPRING FLING WITH SCIENCE - Cosmic Log covers the World Science Festival, which included announcements of 3 Kavli Prizes. These prizes are in the same class as the Nobel Prizes in the sense that they are for past work rather than particular innovations specified ahead of time. The prizes are in:

- astrophysics (work on quasars in this case)
- nanoscience (quantum dots and carbon nanotubes)
- neuroscience (for understanding basic mechanisms that govern the development and functioning of the networks of cells in the brain and spinal cord)

There's more on the winners here. MSNBC also has another article on the Kavli prizes.
